Siemens Introduces Celebrity Patient Education Video in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Oct 15, 2015
· Siemens creates a video featuring Today Show host Hoda Kotb, sharing her story as a breast cancer survivor and conveying the importance of regular screening.
· The video supplying education to patients and the general public this October, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is available online and for healthcare provider waiting rooms.
· The addition of the tomosynthesis option for mammography increases diagnostic accuracy in breast cancer screening.
Continuing to fortify its commitment to women’s health, Siemens spearheads a new way to inform patients about the importance of regular breast tissue screening through use of mammography. Having the knowledge and awareness of imaging technology’s value encourages patients to receive yearly imaging check-ups and demystifies the examination—saving lives as a result.
Siemens has released a video featuring Today Show host and breast cancer survivor Hoda Kotb. The video, available on the company’s website www.usa.siemens.com/breast-care, on social media, and on DVD, reminds women of the importance of regular screenings. Mammography allows for the detection of breast cancer earlier than self-examinations alone, and catching cancer at an earlier stage not only offers a better prognosis, but easier and most cost-effective treatments as compared to those necessary when cancers are detected at a later stage. With the availability of 3D tomosynthesis imaging as an adjunct to standard 2D mammography, for which Siemens received FDA approval this past April, women, especially those with denser breast tissue, will receive more thorough and accurate diagnostic results from mammography screenings.
“Thanks to technology pioneers like Siemens, innovation in breast cancer detection and treatment continues to move forward, with better detection today than ever before possible. I’m thankful to be here today to share my story, hoping to make a difference for others,” says Hoda Kotb, as part of her video message.
“The importance of educating patients cannot be overestimated,” says Martin Silverman, Vice President of Siemens X-Ray Business Unit. “In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are pleased to share the important message that mammograms save lives.”
