Why Dual Energy?

Dual Energy CT (DECT), or Spectral Imaging, delivers healthcare providers what they need most - answers.  Answers that are not possible with conventional CT alone.  Dual Energy CT supplies physicians with additional insights through enhanced quantitative information which can be used to better characterize abdominal lesions, better classify incidental findings and potentially avoid additional exams, and identify the makeup of kidney stones.

What is Twin Beam Dual Energy?

TwinBeam Dual Energy (TBDE) allows simultaneous acquisition of high and low kV datasets in a single spectral CT scan by splitting the X-ray beam with two filters before it reaches the patient, enabling high-contrast dynamic applications. This additional information can be utilized extensively in abdomen, kidney, liver, gout and lung exams for greater visualization with the potential to avoid additional scans.

What are the advantages of TwinBeam Dual Energy?

Compared to other single source dual energy methods, TwinBeam Dual Energy offers several unique benefits. First the ability to maintain full dose modulation throughout the entire scan and additionally, the TwinBeam Dual Energy acquisition can also be combined with iterative reconstruction. These factors deliver a dose neutral scan when compared to a traditional single energy CT.
TwinBeam Dual Energy can also be combined with the iMAR Metal Artifact Reduction algorithm to create a powerful metal artifact reduction tool.  Finally, TwinBeam Dual Energy data can be automatically processed through syngo.via rapid results enabling dual energy imaging to be incorporated into clinical routine.
TwinBeam Dual Energy combines the latest dose reduction techniques with crisp image quality for the visualization, quantification and differentiation of material for a wide range of clinical questions.

  • Visualize subtly enhancing lesions
  • Characterization of abdominal lesions
  • Aid in the characterization of kidney stones (uric acid vs complicated cysts)
  • Automate bone removal
  • Visualize uric acid crystals to aid the non-invasive identification of gout
  • Enhance the visualization of  incidental findings

How does it work?

TwinBeam Dual Energy allows simultaneous acquisition of high and low kV datasets in a single CT scan. In order to create the two datasets necessary for Dual Energy CT processing, a movable split filter is positioned in front a 120 kV x-ray beam. The filter, composed of gold (Au) and tin (Sn), splits the 120 kV x-ray beam into a high and low energy x-ray spectrum before it reaches the patient.

Dual Energy Clinical Workflow

Rapid Results makes your reconstructions simple

Dual energy clearly provides added value to your clinical routine, but it is syngo.via’s Rapid Results which helps deliver that value to you without the extra manual work and postprocessing.

With Rapid Results clinical innovations, Dual Energy can be pre-set up to make complex reconstructions, work behind the scenes without the need for manual setup during each scan. The initial set up of your protocols with Rapid Results makes post processing a part of your routine reconstruction tasks regardless of your expertise level. Standardized and consistent image quality is obtainable independent of the operator. This then translates into fast and reproducible results with zero clicks.

Rapid Results helps you make Dual Energy routine

With Rapid Results there is no need to change your clinical workflow. Just define your workflow once, and let Rapid Results produce all the Dual Energy images you need in the background and from only a single DE acquisition. Everything from virtual unenhanced maps, key in oncology cases, to mono-energetic images for reduced metal artifact reduction or Lung PBV maps for pulmonary embolism assessment are available automatically.
