Myocardial Viability

Knowledge about myocardial viability is very important for the management of patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy, as only viable myocardial segments will benefit from revascularization.

Several diagnostic approaches exist to assess myocardial viability through evaluation of wall thickness or myocardial contraction, perfusion or metabolism. To answer these questions several modalities may be used: Molecular Cardiology, Cardiovascular MR, Echocardiography or Cardiovascular CT.
