Frontier-X FellowshipLeveraging synergies in laboratory diagnostics and medical imaging

Early and accurate diagnosis—the Value of Knowing—is the foundation of quality healthcare. Its value is undeniable—to patients, to doctors, and to the underlying financial health of our healthcare system. As part of Siemens Healthcare’s commitment to transforming our healthcare system, we offer the Frontier-X Fellowship.

This funding opportunity explores the potential for laboratory diagnostics and medical imaging, together, to make an impact in population health and patient outcomes. Siemens is searching for investigators that are eager to conduct academic research projects that transcend the boundaries of typical radiology or pathology research initiatives.

By driving patient-focused innovation that enables fast, accurate diagnosis, we share the common goals of increasing the quality of care and improving outcomes while ultimately reducing medical costs.

To provide investigators an opportunity to conduct clinical research beyond typical single-department projects, recipients are challenged to explore the synergies of laboratory diagnostics and medical imaging to address population health and/or disease-specific questions leading to improved patient outcomes.

  • Research must comprise hypothesis-driven basic science and/or clinical investigations utilizing Siemens medical imaging and laboratory diagnostics.
  • Applicants should describe the unique nature of the research effort, including well-defined goals for the funding period of the grant.
  • Minimum requirement for proposal submission is the use of currently available Siemens laboratory diagnostic and imaging equipment.
  • A strong preference will be given to innovative proposals that challenge the routine use of available tests by utilizing the combined strengths of both laboratory diagnostics and imaging, for example, demonstrating the efficacy of novel testing methods.
  • This program is intended for PhD postdoctoral or fellowship projects.

Two Frontier-X Fellowships will be awarded annually at $50,000 per fellow (minimum 50% effort). Funds shall be used for salary and/or non-personnel-related research expenses, and not for clinical testing.

  • The applicant must be employed by an Academic Research Partner of Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc.
  • An active Master Research Agreement between the Academic Research Partner and Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc. is required as governing document.
